In 2011, a brave group of parents started to plan for a new community playground at Geyer Road Elementary school. In 2013 a new playground became a priority when the old playground was removed due to safety issues. Through the years many parents have been involved in discussions and fundraisers to help bring the new playground to life.
Today’s playground committee consists of a group of dedicated parents who want to create a dynamic play space for use both during recess and afterschool. So far we have built phase 1, a small play space under the trees. These pieces are inspired by nature and give children the chance to practice agility, jumping, and decision making. It also gives the children a place to play out of the sun.
In addition to Phase 1 of the playground, we have also purchased other equipment for our students to use. This past year we used a mature CD to purchase class sets of snow shoes for the students to use during recess and physical education. We have also used our Price Chopper Tools for Schools points to order each grade level a set of balls, jump ropes, and Frisbees to be used during recess.
We are continuing to fundraise for our playground in a variety of ways including family events, grant writing, Amazon Smile, and sponsorships of playground pieces. Please let us know how you can help!
