FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The Geyser Road PTO is 501c3 non profit organization whose purpose is to support the education of the children at Geyser Road Elementary by fostering relationships among the school, parents, and teachers. We do this by offering enrichment events to students and families, creating a sense of community through fun and educational activities both during and after school. We also help the school purchase equipment not provided for in the budget, such as a new playground.

MOST FREQUENT QUESTION

What does the PTO do?

The PTO is involved in many aspects of school. We organize and support the Cultural Arts Program, assist teachers in the classroom, we plan fun and educational events for students and families. We also fundraise for larger projects, such as a new playground. We do this and so much more!

What do you do with the money raised through fundraising?

The money we raise each year goes towards many events and enrichment opportunities. We pay $10,000 each year to support our Cultural Arts program, last year we purchased snowshoes for students to use during recess and gym, we buy lunch for students during 5th grade orienteering and Field Days, we offer a free science night with a variety of presenters, we purchase prizes and books for reading, math and PARP events. The money also allows us to plan fun events such as the Fun Fair and Family Dance. Our main focus is raising money for the new playground.

What is Cultural Arts?

Cultural Arts is a PTO committee that works to set up arts and science events for each grade. The committee arranges for assemblies, author visits, science exhibits and museum visits for the students at Geyser Road. The committee works with committees from the other schools in the district to create a year long list of activities.

What is PARP?

PARP is our Parents As Reading Partners program that encourages students and parents to read together and keep track of their reading each day. Each student who reaches the goal will receive a prize and every student will receive a book.

I hope everyone is having a great summer so far. At home, we've been exploring chemical reactions! Kids are having fun with baking soda, vinegar and balloons! We got our ideas from www.madscience.org. Feel free to share with us some of the fun things you are doing. See you soon!
